Letter to Members

558738_326503550740809_1900355272_n Dear Game Club Members,

It’s that time of year again, time to renew your Game Club Membership.  Club memberships are $20.00 and Commercial memberships are $25.00 a year.  Our club will still hold various fundraisers for the club’s support such as the 300 Club Picnic in August and the Chuck Edsall Sporting Clay Shoot in the spring.

This year we lost one of our club’s outstanding members, Dick Lockwood.  Dick was instrumental in the building and financial success of the Kane Fish and Game Club’s present location.  He will be sadly missed.

The club recently upgraded some roads and parking areas of the facility.  Also, the club this year updated its speaker system on the inside and outside of the facility.  Special thanks to Joe Szymanski and Chris Niklaus for their efforts.

The club will be hosting the Tenth Annual Mentored Youth Pheasant Hunt, which is scheduled for October 10, 2015.  Anyone interested in volunteering themselves or bird dogs is asked to contact either Ed Sleeman at 335-5826 or Steve Timpano at 837-9644.

The Winter Sporting Clay and Trap Shooting Leagues had great turnouts despite some very cold outings, again.  Another reason to get out of the house this winter.  Sporting Clays will start in December.  We will also be holding some turkey shoots on Sunday afternoons in the month of October.  Look for our flyers.  Kane will start the Penn-York Trap League on November 1, 2015 and will host the annual field day and banquet on March 7, 2016.  New shooters are always welcome in these activities.

The club held four Archery Shoots this summer.  Turnout was good as was the weather.  A great group of young shooters got involved to run the Club’s 3D Archery Shoots.  Special thanks to Taylor Holt and family, Jim Morgan, and  Chris Cherry.

The Big Buck  Contest had a good turnout last year.  The deer were healthy looking and much larger over the last twenty (20) years.  Turkey hatch sightings have been numerous in the area with a late start.  The club’s Big Buck Contest will be held November 30, 2015 from 7 to 8:30.  Again, the club is donating a head mount for Mr. Big Buck winner.  We will also have our membership drawing for six Case knives and turkey feeding prizes of $500, $300, and $200.  The monies from the ticket completely funds our turkey feeding program.  These tickets are $1.00 each.

The winter turkey feeding program was very successful.  The club distributed about nine (9) tons of corn in about sixty (60) feeders.  The day after muzzle loading season ends will be initial feeder filling day.  If someone is interested in this program, come to a meeting and find out more.

Our Annual 300 Club Picnic was again a huge success.  Another fundraiser to help expenses of the club.  Plans are in the making for the first Sunday in August of 2016.  Again, thanks for your support.

The club hosted another National Bench Rest Shooters Match on August 15 and 16.  We had fifty-eight (58) shooters from around the country and Canada.  The club holds the largest shoot in the easter region of the United States.  We look forward to another match in 2016.

The Horseshoe League had a great summer.  Bryan and Bob Olsen came out on top for the third year in a row.

The club held their Adopt-A-Highway road cleanup in April.  The club has participated in the program for about twenty-two (22) years.

The club hosted two Pennsylvania Hunter/Trapper Education Classes and  three NRA Handgun Training courses for women and men.

In March, our Kane High School Scholastic Trap Team started their fourth year and ended up with a 6 – 2 record and runner-up to the championship for the second straight year.  Also, this year we went to the school board and asked to award letters to our top shooters like the other sports at the area high schools.  Criteria was made and the first two letters in trap team history were awarded to Taylor Holt and Ricky Grundstrom.  Great job to all!  The Midway USA raffle winners were Ken Kane and Ed Sleeman.

Special thanks to Glen Smith, John Avernali, and Gee Oaks for the countless hours of grounds work at the club and many days of snow plowing for our club functions.  Also, thanks to the many club members who volunteer their time!

Regular monthly meetings are at 7:30 P.M. the last Thursday of the month.  Hopefully you can participate in club activities or help out in some way.  This would be greatly appreciated.  In addition to our website, we are on Facebook at Kane-Fish-and-Game-Club.
